On May 1st eleven Waterloo Synchro swimmers and their coach boarded a plane for Victoria, B.C. for the 2012 Canadian Open National Synchronized Swimming Championships and 6 days later they flew home as National Champions, twice over. This past weekend Waterloo Synchro swimmers competed at the Hilton Worldwide Invitational Championships held at York University and once again came home with more gold medals than any other club in attendance! Two weeks ago, 12U swimmers from across 3 teams in our club came together to learn a routine for the National Espoir Pilot Qualifier. This year, as part of a pilot test, two 12U teams from each province will be attending the Espoir National Championships. On April 14th, the top swimmers from across the Province came to our pool in Elmira for the 2nd, and final phase, in the 2012 Provincial Team Trials. The Western Ontario region, which includes 6 clubs from Burlington, Brantford, Guelph, London, and KW, was painted purple and gold this weekend! The Waterloo Synchro Club, who’s identifying colour is purple, brought home 11 gold medals from the Western Ontario Regional Championships held in Elmira on March 24-25. On March 8-11, three teams (22 athletes) headed to Base Borden for the 2012 Ontario Winter Games and came home with 2 golds! Ontario Winter Games is a bi-annual event held for over 2200 athletes in 25 different sports and one that only the top athletes in the each sport qualify to attend. Nineteen Waterloo Synchro swimmers were in Quebec City for the Eastern Canadian Divisional Championships March 6-11. The swimmers were among close to 400 athletes from across Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces who attended the Championships in hopes of qualifying for Nationals in May.
